Last week as I was leaving my Performance Puppy class at Pets Behave, I was thinking what a great job my young “demo dog” Darcy had done in class. At one point, I was demonstrating a concept that I call teamwork. To illustrate, I asked Darcy to sit on my left and then to move with me when I moved. Then I had her sit on my right and we walked around a little with her at heel position on my right. As I continued to explain what I was looking for, I asked Darcy to spin to her right and then to her left. Then I asked for a “front” followed by a “back up” request. She then came back into left heel position and we did a quick figure 8 – all with her at my side and with perfect attention. I was finishing up my explanation and wanted everyone to work with their own dogs, so I told Darcy that she was awesome, sent her to back into her crate, tossed in a few cookies, zipped up her crate and then asked my students to give it a try. Later that night, as I was driving home, I was thinking about how smoothly and easily young Darcy and I were able to flow from one position to the next, and I marveled at how well she had done.
It was THEN that I said to my self: “Wait a minute – “I” trained that dog and she’s AWESOME!”
Signed … Happy that I have been Training in NW Florida
