This is for Finnegan

I would imagine that stepping to the start line for the very first time with your young dog is much like sky diving. There are the butterflies just before take that first step, the rush of adrenaline as you release yourself into the elements and while you are enjoying the ride, there is that little voice in the back of your head that tells you this could all end very badly.

On the flip side, I would imagine that stepping to the line with your seasoned dog is like slipping on your favorite pair of jeans. You know, the ones that have been worn in, in all the right places. The “go to” pair that works with just about everything with very little effort. The ones that you take for granted, that have been worn and washed a hundred times and always feel just right. And while there is an initial thrill of that very first jump into the ring, there is also something so very comforting and natural and amazing about stepping into the ring and knowing that no matter the outcome, you will always feel just right with your old, worn in, comfortable pair of jeans.

This is for Finnegan, who has been such a good boy and so patient with me while I am working with Darcy. He melts my heart when he looks at me with those incredible deep brown eyes that say to me “is it MY turn now?”

Yes, Finn, it’s your turn. Have I told you lately how awesome you are?
